We are the Minnesota Professional Speaking Meetup group.

(New members, be sure to claim your free 30-Minute session with Ter Scott! below).

The words Minnesota and Speaking are in bold because we are speakers who live in or in surrounding states. The word professional is in CAPS and italicized because members need to be both paid (or seeking paid gigs) and act professionally in all ways.

We’re all about Minnesota speakers (and the proximity around the state) and speakers who have and are paid to speak; or are very serious about learning not only the craft of speaking well but being paid and speaking part time or full time as a public speaker.

Note that the state border (which is “bold” because Minnesota is the emphasized state) is placed within the United States and that there is no border around the complete design. This represents the fact that (going outward from our state to the entire world and then back again) speakers from the Minnesota “area”, anywhere in the USA, and from anywhere in the WORLD are invited to be members; but that our main activities happen within our state. Also note that the stairway (which I’ll mention more about later) starts in the state but overlaps the state border. This symbolizes that one of the goals for our Minnesota members is to speak outside of the state, in the USA and the world.
Note the unisex person on the stairs; this is you. You’ve already gone several steps but you seek more, and as you can see, this figure has a way to go. The stairs is at an upper right angle which is a positive “slant” which denotes that our community is a positive group and we always seek to act in a positive and professional manner with fellow members, those who hire us and our audiences. The green of the stairs of course symbolizes the added revenue one can expect to achieve with progress. The stairs also denote the different “membership tiers” available. Design wise, these stairs start at the lower end of the state and “end” at our local area of the Twin Ports (Duluth). We will have meetings and events along interstate Highway 35 in Minneapolis area, Forest Lake, Hinckley, and Duluth to attract and accommodate members from all areas of the state.

Note also that the figure is “in front” of the lectern; in our community you are out in front of the lectern doing more than public speaking because this community is more than “just” public speaking (and in the act of speaking publicly you don’t want to be stationary behind a lectern). The lectern is there (and yes, it’s a lectern and not a podium; please!) without anyone because it is meant to have you and our members behind it presenting; but “outside” of our usual community events. Speaking professionally and “formal” educational activities are not what this group is about. We will have “formal” meetings where we talk shop, but we will have many more association “get-to-gathers”. The Minnesota Professional Speaking Meetup group is a community of members who happen to share the common theme of speaking professionally but share more common interests and activities outside of speaking. Public speakers are people too! We have family; we enjoy travel, good food and good times with fun people. What do public speakers in Minnesota (and surrounding areas) do when they are not preparing, presenting and evaluating and planning to speak again? We hope he or she will join us at one of our great activities!

We emulate the principle that “more is caught than taught” and “don’t do as I say, but do as I do”. You can expect to learn the “inside” and “topical” methods, resources, tip and tricks of the trade from each member but you will do so over time and over a cup of coffee, during a wine and cheese taste event, dinner and movie activity, hiking, road trip, etc.

As a member of the Minnesota Professional Speaking Meetup group, you are a brother or sister of an overall public speaking family.
